Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Booktober Library Crawl?
The Booktober Crawl is a collaborative program taking place among 24 Old Colony Library Network (OCLN) (link opens in a new window) Libraries during the month of October. Don’t know OCLN? OCLN is the organization that oversees the courier service that allows delivery vans to bring materials back and forth between all of us, among other things.
2025 marks the 3rd Annual Crawl!
This year, we have streamlined the participation requirements for our visitors to make the focus more about enjoying the experience of visiting various libraries than it is about winning prizes. This will be a fun and simple activity for families and individuals. Want to share your travels on social media? Be sure to tag your local and use the hashtags #booktoberlibrarycrawl.
How do I participate in the Library Crawl?
Stop by any participating library to get started and pick up your passport, or download it via this website. Your goal is to visit as many libraries as you would like and collect unique stamps on your passport at each one. Some libraries will have special events and prizes, but the experience will be different at each. Collect 5 passport stamps and receive a “Super Crawler” certificate on the spot. Collect more than 20 stamps and be a certified “Booktober Champion”!
Want to know where to start your trip?
Visit the Booktober Library Crawl Map (link opens in a new window) to get started!
What events are going on and how do I participate?
During the Booktober Library Crawl, libraries will be hosting various events with something fun for everyone! Please visit the websites linked above for libraries you would like to visit to learn about their hours, locations, and event descriptions. Read the event descriptions carefully, as some events may require registration, and some events might be limited to a particular age group.
Can I visit any OCLN Library in the network?
Absolutely! However, only the libraries listed above as participating in the 2025 Booktober Library Crawl will offer the opportunity to stamp your passport.
Who can participate in the Booktober Library Crawl?
The Booktober Library Crawl is open to all ages and anyone can participate. You do not need to be a resident of any of the participating towns, or even a Massachusetts resident. You can visit libraries in whichever order you choose. The goal is to have fun and visit somewhere new!
Can I visit multiple branches of the same library and have these count?
Branches of one city/town library will only count as one library visit. For instance, if you visit both the main Plymouth Library and the Manomet branch, only one of these would count as a visit to that library.
Is the Booktober Library Crawl free?
Yes! All programs and events featured for the Booktober Library Crawl are free!
Take a literary walk or browse a commonwealth book trail to discover the literary heritage of Massachusetts.
